The Skopje hostel scene has matured well throughout the years, and there are several renowned accommodation facilities dotting the map. This review covers one of them, and does so in depth, going over aspects such as location, staff, price, and general view of the place. The venue in question is Skopje Hostel, which is one of the oldest and most renowned accommodation facilities in the city.
Offering the most affordable price, for a super convenient location, modern, clean and comfortable setting, Skopje Hostel is definitely a place to consider. The following review will discuss this facility through the eyes of a foreigner, who is traveling on a budget, and staying in Skopje for about a week.
Skopje Hostel – location
The bird view perspective puts Skopje Hostel at the very heart of the city. It is located near the Parliament of Macedonia, which means only minutes away from every local attraction. Bars and restaurants are to be found left and right, moments after you step out of the building, and there is a small store right across the street.

The sightseeing starts the moment you put your foot outside, for there is the pedestrian street Macedonia just a minute away, and the main square only 200 meters once you start walking.
The Old Bazar, the Stone Bridge, the Kale Fortress, the Old Railway station and the Mother Theresa memorial house are all within walking distance and the Parliament building and newly renovated Women’s Park are only a minute away. The Triumphal Gate is right across the street.
Needless to say, you will save big on taxi fares, for most of the important sites are nearby.
Additionally, the bus station in front of the hostel building is particularly crowded and most of the bus lines pass by.
The rooms
Compared to other hostels in the Skopje area, this one is a bit less crowded. The maximum capacity is 12 residents, with two rooms counting 3 bunk beds each.
Both rooms are very bright throughout the day, and each has a separate bathroom. Comfortable and spacious, they are well above the expected minimum for a decent hostel.
One of the rooms has a great city view, and the other has a walk-in balcony. Both offer personal storage with a private key, personal reading lights for each bed, comfortable mattresses and quality linens, and one of the rooms even features foldable desks for a laptop.
Full cover curtains are installed for every bed, satisfying the privacy standard you’d expect from a mix dorm room hostel.
The Common area
The common area is a joint section between the kitchen, dining and living room. You have a full-size kitchen, with a fridge, freezer and all the kitchenware you’ll ever need. The electric stove and oven are lacking, but you have a toaster, coffee machine and microwave.
The living room section features comfortable and cozy furniture, and the whole room is super bright throughout the entire day. There is Cable TV and tons of movies that you can watch as well.
The Bathrooms
The bathrooms, though not remarkably spacious, are decent nonetheless. They are newly renovated, with two sinks, large mirror on the wall, and a comfortably spacious shower cabin. There is a tank-less electrical water heater installed, so you won’t have to worry about running out of hot water. Day or night, regardless of the season Skopje Hostel would offer hot showers 24/7.
Toiletries are free and always refilled on time, and you will have clean towels folded on the bed as well.
Skopje Hostel – Utilities
When you look at the price, you’ll realize how the list of amenities is surprisingly long. First of all, the building offers free parking on spot, and a step-free path to an elevator. You have free Wi-Fi, Cable TV, Heating and Air conditioning, Hot water 24/7, and many essentials such as towels, bed sheets, soap and toiletries.
There is also the complementary coffee and tea, and you can enjoy some snacks and cereals as well. The common area has a large screen TV with many movies to choose from, and there is full-sized kitchen with a refrigerator, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, coffee maker, dishes and silverware.
There are hairdryers if you need one, as well as free shampoo and soap. You can ask for extra pillows and blankets.

- Skopje Hostel reviews
Available to book on Hostel World, Booking and AirBnb, Skopje Hostel has a very positive track record. It is, without any exaggeration whatsoever, the highest rated hostel in the Skopje area.
As of writing this Skopje Hostel review, it has a 9.6 rating (out of 10) on Booking, with 224 votes. On Hostel World, only 9 ratings are submitted, with an average score of 9.3 (out of 10). AirBnb features 30 reviews, with the maximum score available.
Some complaints are written about the availability of the staff that is often absent though otherwise very friendly. We cannot complain about this since the staff was there most of the time. All in all, the cumulative feedback from all of the 3 booking platforms puts Skopje Hostel at the top of the list. The location, price, comfort and great hygiene are what guests love the most.
Skopje Hostel – price and verdict
The price is so affordable that it is perhaps the lowest to be found near this area of the city. Considering the location, and all the exceptional utilities, it is unprecedented. If you want to book a single bed, you’ll pay 10 euros per person, per night.
Considering the spacious layout, comfortable common area and exceptional hygiene, this is affordable even for Macedonian standards. You also get tons of amenities that make Skopje Hostel a legitimate competitor to many of the moderately priced hotels. And considering the capacity of 12 residents, it is far less crowded than most of the higher priced hostels.
If you are looking for a superb location, hoping to save big on transportation, while enjoying most of the local attractions within your close proximity, this is definitely the place to consider. If you like a young and friendly environment, and quick access to most of the restaurants and bars, along with the lively part of the Skopje nightlife scene, this is the place to book.
Budget friendly, fully equipped even for a long term stay, and conveniently located, it should be on the top of your list when looking for accommodation in Skopje.
